Politics...

I hate politics. Seriously...all politics. Governmental politics, educational politics, works place politics. It's all crappy and I don't understand it most of the time and I just hate it. Most of the time it just seems like sneaky backhanded ways to screw your opponents, make money, pass judgement or pass laws that benefit no one but the ones who passed them. It's gross and slimy and generally unkind.

But here's the thing, politics is needed.

As much as I hate politics I acknowledge that it is an essential system that keeps our world running.

So, why am I going on about something that I hate? Because in a few months I have to vote for the leader of my country and I want the one we have right now gone.

I came to a realization the other day. My entire voting life, Canada has had 1 Prime Minister. Granted my voting life has only been about 8 years, but still...8 years of a Conservative idiotic prick is what I have to show for my voting life. Now, as I have said I hate politics, so I don't really know all the details. Whether there is anything good that Stephen Harper has done for Canada, but I do know there are some things that he has destroyed. Like protected parks, wildlife reserves, and wetlands. He managed to pass bills that essentially has the power to mark one of my best friends as a terrorist, and another as a second class citizen. I might mention that both of these friends are brilliant, and have multiple post-secondary credentials.

The last three elections in Canada have been the lowest in our countries history. 61% at the last, 58% at the one before. That means that 40% of Canadians who can vote, didn't. This also means that just under 40% of the voting population of Canada voted for their Conservative MP. The Conservative party beat out the NDP by 9%, which amounts to just over half the population of Greater Vancouver. One city. Not even the largest city. Canada has been under Conservative government long enough. It is time to vote for change.

I'm kind of hoping that this will be my only post like this. I don't really care to talk about things that I don't like, but I have been the most involved with this election campaign (which when it's over will be the longest in Canadian history), and I wanted to get my thinking out there. I watched the McLean's candidates debate and did my best to listen closely to the promises, accusations, and allegations thrown around. From what I heard there was no clear 'winner,' but the next day I saw a Facebook article headlining that Harper had 'won' and I went 'WTF?!? He barely said anything worth while?!?' Anyway, the real purpose of this post it to continue my campaign of trying to get people to vote. We need more turn out if Canada is going to survive and continue to have the reputation it's citizens have come to know.

So, anyone who reads this and is Canadian and can vote...PLEASE DO IT!!!!!!

Cheers
