La
Belle Province

We got going at a reasonable time today. The storm
that Dodd predicted never actually appeared so we didn’t have to deal with damp
window covers which was nice! We packed up and were ready to go fairly quickly
with a snack and protein bar breakfast again. We were aiming for Prevost, which
is a small town outside of Montreal. We had a nice starting drive with our Road
Trippin playlist. We got to see a bobcat pad across the road! It was very
brown, with a short stubby tail and pointed ears. Definitely not a house cat or
coyote.

In terms of landscape, Quebec at this point is
very like Ontario. Lot’s of trees and rocks and water. It was quite pretty and
we had beautiful weather. However, we soon learned that Quebec does not take
great care of their highways. There was a constant ‘thump thump’ from the road
sections and tons of potholes. We also had our first real close call with a
stupid driver. Through out the day we figured that Quebec drivers are a bit of
a bread apart…very aggressive.

We had planned on stopping at a truck stop kind of
place for the night. However, after looking again at our planned stop we had
second thoughts. All of the truck stops we had seen so far would have been fine
for a Motor home or a trailer or something. But our little Fit Camper would have
been very exposed. Dodd was feeling up to it so we decided to keep driving
until close to Trois-Rivières where there was a rest stop that was a bit more
secluded. It was a long drive, but music and chatting kept us going pretty well
through the day. When we got to the stop we discovered there were no toilets.
Not even a pit or port-a-potty. We went on another 10 mins down the road and
found a bathroom, but it wasn’t a place to stay the night so back we went to
the rest stop. We had to set up in the dark, and our neighbours were probably
not super happy when I accidentally set off the car alarm trying to roll down
the windows.
We had phone service for once so we ended up
staying up pretty late playing games and getting blog posts together. Over all
not our best day of travel, but it got us closer to Quebec City which was nice!
