From
Lake to Lake
It was hard to leave the lake. We woke up to
sunshine and waves. I found a little pool that had a dry spot to sit and have
my feet in the water. It was nice and refreshing first thing in the morning. We
packed up and had some fruit and a protein bar for breakfast and headed out
around 9:30am.

We were headed up North toward highway 11. We
decided on a music day, so we turned up the tunes and rolled the windows down.
It was an easy drive with a few stops for construction (it is still Canada).
We had to go through Thunder Bay and Dodd
learned that there was no actual bay called Thunder Bay as he seemed to think
there was. Eventually we figured out that all his life he had been convinced
that Hudson’s Bay was actually called Thunder Bay and that the town of Thunder
Bay was on or near ‘Thunder Bay’ (Hudson’s Bay)…After much discussion and
convincing that Hudson’s Bay was actually the bay in question, we ended up
getting gas in the city of Thunder Bay…which is in fact on Lake Superior. There
was a brief thought of making a side trip to get our feet wet in another of the
Great Lakes, but timing was not on our side, and we decided to save that for
another trip.

We found lake Nipigon easily and roosted at a rest
stop with a few little parking spots in the trees. We got out some food when we
got there and ate before setting up the car. This was a mistake because some
sudden wind and rain came up. Dodd had to get our rain coats because the rain
was blowing into the picnic shelter. We played a round of Strip Jack Naked (ask
my mom Karen about that one). Then tried some Crib without a board. We only got
through one hand of that and decided it was time for bed. We cleared up our
dinner garbage and threw it out. Just as we were finishing up, a fox came
padding out of the trees. It stopped and stared for a bit. I whipped out my
phone and tried to get some pictures. I got a little too close and it lopped
away back into the trees. I went to finish the last set up for the car, and the
fox came back! I tried again to get a photo, but it didn’t really work. Dodd
was headed for the bathroom, and it looked like the fox was following him, but
I think it was more interested in the garbage cans near by than Dodd.
We snuggled into the car around 9:30. I did some
blog writing and Dodd read for a while. Once again we set a hopeful alarm for
about 7am, with best intentions to get an early start. We shall see how it
went!
Cheers
