Goodbyes
and Greetings

The day dawned, and as usual Dodd and I were the
last up. We had a lovely pancake breakfast with strawberries and coconut chia
pudding. After that it was time to pack up. After some quick dishes and
dismantling of out Fit bed, we said goodbye to the friends and neighbours. We
finished up our repacking and started on the road to Clinton around 11am.
We drove the Duffy Lake Road, which Dodd had never
seen and I had only seen from the back of a motor home, with my Dad going about
20km around hairpin turns and my mom going ‘scary road! Scary Road! SCARY
ROAD!’ So in spite of the fact I remembered the impression of beautiful scenery,
I didn’t have a solid memory otherwise. Needless to say we had another
absolutely stunning drive! The difference between the climate zones is such a
stark contrast that we were amazed every time we came around a bend. It felt
like we were in a different country every 50km or so. And the vistas! Same
idea, you come around a bend and suddenly this rolling mountain appears before
you, or a shinning blue lake, or an idyllic stream. I started to think we would
blow all of our picture space just on our own province!

We took a small wrong turn and ended up going in
to Lillooet proper, but now we can both say we have seen Lillooet…not really
much to see. We got going the right way again, and found Ranch Country. Once
again, amazing scenery. We stopped only a few times for quick pee breaks, and
mostly just snacked in the car for lunch. We made it to Clinton by about 3pm to
the delight of Ross and his Staffordshire Terrier Midnight (seriously the
cutest, sweetest pupper I have met in a long time!)

For those who don’t know, Ross is one of Michael’s
(Dodd’s dad), best friends. He gave us a great tour of their new property and
gave us the low down on what he and Pauline are planning to do with it. Then we
unloaded some stuff and had a chat and some homemade wine along with much love
and affection from Midnight, and even some from Quinn the rescued street raised
Chihuahua! Next was a walk to one of the 6 quirky antique shops that are in
Clinton. We had a fun time poking around for a bit, then headed over to ‘The
Lodge’ for dinner. Really cool place, with pretty decent pub food. We had some
more great chats, mostly about the virtues of moving out of the big cities,
because they’re so expensive! No need to tell us twice!
We then wandered back to the house and had some
more wine, set up a place for us to crash that wasn’t the back of the car, and
solved the worlds problems, had more wine…maybe a little too much wine and not
enough water for some…We finally made it to bed around 12:30am.
It was a wonderful visit with an old friend we
haven’t had a lot of chance to see recently. I can not say enough how wonderful
it is to have friends who you can just drop in on and talk like it has been
only a few weeks rather than a few years.
Cheers
