Wayward Newlyweds - Intro

The Pagan English Teacher went and got married!

Solstice 2019 found Dodd and I tying the knot (literally, we did a handfasting). It was a beautiful day, with sunshine, love and music. But really that is not the point of this post. The point is, we are starting our honeymoon and I am going to try and blog the whole thing. Thus is born this new series on the Pagan English Teacher Blog: Wayward Newlyweds

The Plan:

Drive from one end of the country to the other and go on to France! Yup, France! Apparently there are two small islands to the south of Newfoundland that are owned by France and need passports to get to. They are called St Pierre et Miquelon. We were hoping to be able to 'drive to France' but sadly it seems they only have walk-on ferry's, so no go for that.

To Start:

Head over to Vancouver Island and toodle around there for a few days. See some family and friends (including new baby cousin!!), stick our feet in the Pacific at Tofino, then wander our way home for a few days and start our cross country trek! We will being heading to Lillooette Lake first for some car camping with friends, then making a quick stop to meet up with an old friend, then onward to Alberta.

How:

Dodd is a crafty person as many of you who might be reading know. He got it into his head to build a platform in the back of his Honda Fit for sleeping in the car. So after much measuring, thinking and drafting, he came up with a design he liked and thought would work quite well. Then with the help of his mom and step-dad as a wedding gift we were supplied with wood, a place to work and an extra set of hands to put it all together! After a few hiccoughs and some jiggery-pokery it all came together. So now, we have the means to get across the country without having to spend exorbitant amounts of money on hotels every night, and have a good amount of storage underneath. We have now tested our therma-rest mat and it fits really well! We have a lot of good space and it will be quite comfortable. Next project will be some 'mosquito netting' for the windows both for privacy and the ability to keep the widows open but not allow pesky bugs in. We have a few more details to iron out before we are super ready to get going, but over all, I think we have ourselves a very good start!

Where:

For that you will have to wait and see!

I am not entirely sure whether this will be a daily, semi-daily or weekly blog. I think we will just have to see where the wind takes us. Hopefully, fun will be had by all.

It is an ambitious trip we have planned for ourselves, but it feels like we have planned it all out quite effectively and will be able to do what we want to in a good amount of time. The bigger question will be...can we afford it?? Well, that really remains to be seen! If we hit a spot and decided we can't quite make it, we are not concerned. As long as we make it to the final destination of Tamworth, Ontario for a summer in the bees, all will be well!

Looking forward to everyone joining us vicariously on our wild ride across our beautiful country.

As always

Cheers
